Captain Kennedy was a member of the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron, Chu Lai, South Vietnam. On August 16, 1971, he was the pilot of a Cessna Skymaster Observation Aircraft (O-2A) on a visual reconnaissance over Quang Tin Province, South Vietnam near the Laotian border when radio contact was lost. His remains were recovered on December 15, 1992 and identified on June 7, 1996. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
