Airman Second Class Kalepa was a crew member of a C-119 Flying Boxcar transport with the 815th Troop Carrier Squadron, 483rd Troop Carrier Wing. He was listed as Missing in Action on June 23, 1953, when his plane crashed into the ocean off Tsukishima Island, near Hiroshima, Japan while transporting paratroopers of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team to Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
