On September 4, 1965, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a bombing mission near a railroad about halfway between Tho Trang and Phu Dien Chau in Nghe An Province, North Vietnam. During a low level strafing run his aircraft was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
