Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Technician, Second Class Jackson was a member of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 2 "Golden Falcons", Carrier Anti-Submarine Group 57 aboard the aircraft carrier USS ORISKANY (CVA-34). On July 19, 1967, he was a crew member of a Lockheed Viking Anti-Submarine Helicopter (SH-3A) on a rescue mission of a downed pilot, when the helicopter was hit by enemy fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on October 14, 1982 and identified on October 26, 1982. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
