Captain Hyde was a member of the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On December 8, 1966, he was the pilot of a North American Super Sabre Fighter (F-100D) on a mission 5 miles southwest of Go Cong, South Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on September 13, 1990 and identified on April 16, 1991. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
