Major Hudgens was a member of the 22nd Special Operations Squadron. On March 21, 1970, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skyraider Attack Aircraft (A-1J) on a mission near Na Phao, Laos 5 miles southwest of Mu Gia, where his aircraft crashed. His remains were recovered on April 7, 1995 and identified on February 6, 1996. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
