Captain Hubler was a member of the Marine All Weather Fighter Squadron 235, Marine Attack Group 11, 1st Marine Air Wing. On February 23, 1968, he was the pilot of a Vought Crusader Fighter (F-8E) flying a non-combat mission off the coast of South Vietnam near Danang. His aircraft collided with another and crashed at sea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
