Reed E. Hopkins was born in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania on March 1, 1881. He worked for the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railroad for nine years. He came to the Isthmus of Panama on September 12, 1907 and worked as a Conductor for two years then advanced to General Yard Master at the Gatun District, Atlantic Division. He married Myrtle M. Long. After retirement he remained in Panama. He died on October 11, 1981 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
