Airman First Class Hilton was a member of the 33rd Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron. On March 14, 1966, he was a crew member of a Grumman Albatross Utility Helicopter (HU-16B) on a rescue mission of two airmen, when it was hit by enemy fire and crashed into the Gulf of Tonkin east of Nghe An Province, North Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
