Lieutenant Hency was a veteran of World War II. During the Korean War, he was a crewman on a twin engine Beechcraft assigned to the Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas. During a training flight from Texas to Kansas on February 22, 1952, the aircraft crashed on takeoff killing him and three other passengers.
