Airman First Class Hart was awarded the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Airman First Class Hart was a member of the 581st Air Re-supply Squadron, U.S. Air Force. On January 13, 1953, he was a crew member of a RB-29A Superfortress reconnaissance bomber from the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron. While on a mission of dropping leaflets over enemy territory, his aircraft was attacked by 12 MiGs. He and two other crew members were killed and eleven were taken prisoner. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
