Warrant Officer Harrell was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Service Battery, 38th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. On April 12, 1953 he went for a walk near his battery area in Saemal, North Korea and accidentally stepped on a landmine.
