Sergeant Major Hanna was a member of Detachment A-101, 5th Special Forces Group. On February 7, 1968, he was defending his position against a combined North Vietnamese Army attack on Camp Lang Vei, South Vietnam. Sergeant Major Hanna was last seen rendering aid to a comrade. His remains were recovered on January 15, 2004 and identified on September 8, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
