Airman Second Class Ham was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, 5th Air Force. On July 19, 1950, during a withdrawal in the Taejon area of South Korea, he became separated from the main body. He was initially listed as Missing in Action. His remains were recovered at Isa-ri, South Korea.
