Commander Hall was the commanding officer of Fighter Squadron 143, Carrier Air Wing 14 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ENTERPRISE (CVAN-65). On January 27, 1973, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4J) on a mission against North Vietnamese supplies and vehicles 15 miles northwest of Quang Tri, South Vietnam when his aircraft was hit and caught fire. He ejected safely, but was probably taken prisoner. His remains were recovered on January 25, 1993 and identified on September 6, 1994. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
