For his leadership and valor, First Lieutenant Haag was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

First Lieutenant Haag was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy near Chochiwon, South Korea on July 12, 1950. He was presumed dead on March 8, 1954. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. 1LT Haag's remains have been recovered and identified.
