Private First Class Graniela was a rifleman with Company D, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On August 16, 1968, he was killed by small arms fire while on a combat operation in South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
