Notes
Major Gist was a member of the 14th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On May 18, 1968, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
