Notes
William Gilbert was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on January 2, 1858. He moved to Panama in December, 1882 and worked for the French Canal Company as a steam shovel operator at Culebra. In 1885 he worked as a Fireman for the French Canal Railroad then a Locomotive Engineer for the Panama Canal Company and the Isthmian Canal Commission. He retired from the service in 1925. He died on January 6, 1937 at the Hospital de Panama, Panama City, Panama and was buried at the Mount Hope Cemetery then re-interred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
