Sergeant Gibson was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Sergeant Gibson was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On December 1, 1950, he was taken Prisoner of War while delaying the Chinese forces to permit the withdrawal of the Division to Sunchon, North Korea. He died while a prisoner on June 21, 1951 of malnutrition. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
