Airman First Class Ganoung was a test pilot of a T-33 Shooting Star reconnaissance aircraft with the Rear Echelon Maintenance Combined Operation, 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. On May 18, 1953, while on an operational mission, his aircraft crashed killing him.
