First Lieutenant Fyffe was a crew member of a B-29A Superfortress Bomber with the 343rd Bomber Squadron, 98th Bomber Wing. On October 24, 1951, while in formation for a bombing run, the aircraft was attacked by 40 to 70 MiGs and damaged. The crew bailed out over Wonsan Harbor near Triyom-do, North Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
