First Lieutenant Frederick was a forward observer with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Infantry Division. On March 30, 1953, he was the pilot of a L-19 Bird Dog observation aircraft. His aircraft was forced down in enemy territory near Tup Op-dong, Korea. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
