Petty Officer Eldridge was killed in an aircraft crash and initially listed as Missing in Action. Following the war, the aircraft was located and he was identified. He is buried in a group burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. His name is permanently engraved on the Walls of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery.
