In June 2016, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency exhumed the remains of an Unknown Soldier buried in Plot E Row 7 Grave 12 at Florence American Cemetery with the belief that an identification could be made. Research and analysis were used to positively identify the remains as belonging to Pfc. Lonnie Eichelberger who served in the 371st Infantry Regiment, 92nd Infantry Division, and lost his life on February 10, 1945. His name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at Sicily-Rome American Cemetery.
