Lieutenant Junior Grade Dick was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 64, aboard the aircraft carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV-47). On May 29, 1951, while on a combat mission over North Korea, his aircraft accidentally struck a friendly aircraft and crashed.
