Airman Davis was a flight engineer on a PBM-5S2 Mariner patrol bomber with Patrol Bomber Squadron 42, based at the Naval Air Station Adak, Alaska. On November 10, 1953 he volunteered to fly with Patrol Squadron 50, when it 's flight engineer was ill. The aircraft was enroute to patrol duty over the Yellow Sea when it crashed off Cheju Island, South Korea. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
