Richard Meredith Davies was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 10, 1872. As a young man he worked in the hotel business until 1892. Then he worked as an accountant for the Lake Street Elevated Railroad Company in Chicago. He married Maud Keeler in 1893. In March 1904, he worked for the Post Office Department. In December 1905 he was transferred to the Isthmian Canal Commission as Chief Post Office Inspector. In May 1906 he became Clerk in Charge of the Division of Postal Accounts, Auditor, Canal Zone. He died on June 16, 1937 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
