Leo Marshall Cucuel was born in Amenia, New York on December 31, 1878. He married Lelia F. Mead and they lived in Connecticut, New York. He enlisted in the US Army and served as a corporal in the Philippines. After the war, he and Lelia moved to Panama where he worked as a policeman for the Panama Canal Company. He was awarded the Roosevelt Medal for his service. Upon retirement he remained in Panama. He died on December 27, 1945 at the Gorgas Army Hospital and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
