Jose A. Cruz-Guzman was born Ponce, Puerto Rico on October 28, 1916. On May 23, 1944, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a Light Weapons Infantryman during World War II and the Korean War and retired as a Sergeant with 20 years Service. He married Juana E, Cruz and they lived in Colon, Republic of Panama. He died on September 21, 1988 at the Gorgas Army Hospital from Myocardial Infarction and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
