Specialist, Fourth Class Crowley was a member of Troop D, 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 23rd Infantry Division (Americal). On August 10, 1970, he was the crew chief of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) on a classified "Prairie Fire" operation in the lower panhandle area of Laos. The aircraft lost power and crashed. His remains were recovered on June 26, 1998 and identified on April 22, 2000. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
