Charles S. Cross was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 14, 1868. During the Spanish-American War, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a Private in Company G, 14th Pennsylvania Infantry. After the War, he moved to the Canal Zone and worked for the Panama Canal Company. After he retired he continued to live in Panama. He died on October 11, 1943 at the Gorgas Hospital and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
