Captain Cross was a member of the Marine Composite Squadron 1, Marine Air Group 11, 1st Marine Air Wing. On July 17, 1968, he was flying in a Skyknight Electronic Surveillance Aircraft (EF10-B) over South Vietnam, when contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
