Colonel Corbitt was a member of 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On July 27, 1967, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) flying 5 miles southwest of Dong Hoi, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
