Major Connor was a member of Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 13, Marine Air Group 13, 1st Marine Air Wing based at Chu Lai Air Base in Quang Tri Province. On October 28, 1968, he was the pilot of a Douglas Skyhawk Attack Aircraft (TA-4F) on a combat mission near the Demilitarized Zone. After completing the mission his aircraft was returning to Chu Lai over water when contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
