Martin Coentges was born in Germany in 1874. He immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. In January 1906, he moved to Panama and was employed by the Isthmus Canal Company for three months, and living at Colon. He died on April 4, 1907 at the Colon Hospital. He was buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery then reinterred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
