Staff Sergeant Cochrane was a member of Company H, 75th Infantry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On June 17, 1970, he was the leader of a reconnaissance team on a search mission in Mondol Kiri Province, Cambodia. Upon encountering the enemy, he was wounded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
