Private Edward Clifford was born in Waterford, Ireland on November 23, 1858. He immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a Private stationed at Camp Elliot, Bas Obispo, Panama. He died while on active duty on June 19, 1909 and was buried at the Bas Obispo Cemetery, located near the town of Gamboa, Panama. He was reinterred at the Mt. Hope Cemetery on May 2, 1917 upon the closure of Bas Obispo Cemetery. He was reinterred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
