Houston Walthall Cleveland was born in Linden, Alabama on February 2, 1887. He married Esther Pulis Cleveland and they moved to the Canal Zone on May 8, 1916, where he sold Singer Sewing Machines. He died on April 7, 1922. He was cremated, buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery then reinterred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
