John H. Clarke was born in San Francisco, California on February 7, 1885. He moved to the Canal Zone to work for the Panama Canal Company. He was awarded the Roosevelt Medal for his work on the Canal. After he retired, he moved to Sarasota, Florida. He died on November 7, 1975 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery with his mother, Julia Fisher.
