Benjamin Winthrop Clapp was born at Saratoga Springs, New York on December 26, 1877. He married Emma C. Clapp and moved to Pedro Miguel, Balboa District, Canal Zone where he worked as a machinist for the Panama Canal Company until retirement. He was awarded the Roosevelt Medal for his work with the Panama Canal Company. After Emma died on October 26, 1938, he remained in Panama. He died on May 14, 1946 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery with his wife, Emma.
