William Taft Cerri was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on September 12, 1909. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering at Notre Dame University in 1932. He married Martha Martens at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, Indiana. They moved to the Canal Zone, where he worked as an engineer for the Panama Canal Company. He died on July 17, 1943 in the Panama City Hospital and was buried at Corozal American Cemetery.
