William Joseph Cawl was born in Carbonear, Newfoundland on February 10, 1875. He became a naturalized citizen and married Annie Cawl. They moved to the Canal Zone and worked for the Panama Canal Company. He died on March 10, 1949 and is buried at the Corozal American Cemetery near his son, William A. Cawl and his son's wife, Maxine Cawl.
