Major Carlock was a member of the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base. On March 4, 1967, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission near Nong Het, Xieng Khouang Province, Laos. While attacking a truck, his aircraft was hit by hostile fire, began to burn, and crashed. His remains were recovered on November 26, 2003 and identified on March 10, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
