Percy Calthirst was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 1, 1887. He moved to the Canal Zone and worked as a machinist for the Isthmus Canal Company, starting on February 19, 1908. He received the Roosevelt Medal for his superior work. He died on November 27, 1964 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
