Staff Sergeant Calloway was a member of Company B, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 196th Infantry Brigade. On March 11, 1968, he was on patrol and ran into a machine gun ambush. He was wounded, taken prisoner and died in captivity shortly thereafter. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
