Jose M. Cabrera was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on September 29, 1888. Initially, he worked as a cigarette maker. On April 14, 1910, he enlisted for three years at Fort Slocum, New York as a Private and was assigned to Company K, 12th Infantry. He served in Puerto Rico and the Philippines. He then worked as a Clerk on board the ship, SS BRAZOS. Later, he was working as a mechanic for the Panama Canal Company. He died on February 1, 1933 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
