Aviation Structural Mechanic, Third Class Bushnell was a member of Carrier Early Warning Squadron 116, Carrier Air Wing 15 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43). On April 9, 1970, he was a crew member of a Grumman Hawkeye Electronic Surveillance Aircraft (E-2A) on a routine mission. After takeoff a fire was reported and the aircraft tried to return to the carrier but crashed about 3 miles away. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
