Aviation Electronics Technician Third Class Burdette was a member of Detachment A, Composite Squadron 35, aboard the carrier USS BOXER (CV-21). On August 6, 1952, there was a fire and explosion aboard the carrier. He was suffocated in the air crewmen's compartment.
