Major Brucher was a member of the 44th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Air Base, Thailand. On February 18, 1969, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission near Ban Karai Pass, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by enemy fire. He parachuted to the ground but his chute was caught in the trees and he was taken away. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
